ACROMNIA is a studio focused on product design, architecture, and design speculation for the physical and digital worlds. Its latest project, the ACROMNIA Orbital Hotel, theorizes how housing outside Earth could be — a search for new experiences and realities that might replace our existing ones. In the rapidly developing field of space tourism, the studio presents a concept that holds potential for speculation and future implementation for private space companies, brands, and the hospitality industry of tomorrow. ‘We believe the Earth experiences shouldn’t be replicated in space, and we are searching for new forms of design and human interaction with this design’ the team writes.

creating a pristine structure responding to inhabitants’ needs

In the ACROMNIA Orbital Hotel, one enters a pristine space, with no furniture, no doors, and no other features which humans typically associates to a house. Instead, the interiors are covered in a responsive material with intelligent, shape-shifting properties, creating a so-called shell divided by the material itself as it morphs into partitions and various structures for relaxation and activities. In other words, all elements, including furniture, emerge according to the inhabitant’s needs. The walls envelop the person during sleep. Navigation devices and buttons appear on the inner shell as a bas-relief. To facilitate a synchronized experience, the shell includes micropores, allowing a flow of sound, light, scent, and air.

On an architectural level, the hotel consists of autonomous units that can exist independently or form a larger collective network together. Each unit draws inspiration from emergence, featuring a hexahedron-based structure that facilitates its integration into larger systems. The ACROMNIA Orbital Hotel serves as a platform for new connections, encouraging introspection, exploration, and providing a view of humanity from a cosmic standpoint.
